|Talzin, Clan Mother of the Nightsisters - By: KONAMI|
|Position||Clan Mother of the Nightsisters|
Mother Talzin was a leader of the cult of Dathomirian witches called the Nightsisters and Great Mother of an Frangawl Cult. Talzin led their Nightsisters clans of witches before and during Clone Wars, from a village on their world Dathomir where they lived in seclusion. Not only did she look after the well-being of their fellow Nightsisters, but Talzin held a place in her heart for her sons Maul and Savage, each of them Nightbrothers and a Lord of the Sith. She sent Savage to find his brother and bring him back home to Dathomir, where she helped this fallen Lord Maul regain his legs then sanity. Talzin sold the services of the Nightsisters to the wealthy and powerful yet she wasn't above backstabbing any clients that treated the clan with disrespect. Talzin sought revenge against dark Lord Tyranus and Sidious.
Rise of a Nightsister
Mother Talzin was a Dathomirian female that lived during the last decades of an old Republic prior to the rise of the Empire. She lived on her homeplanet of Dathomir as the mother to her two Nightbrother children Savage Opress and a child who one day eventually become known as Darth Maul. She was also a member in the Nightsisters; a coven of witches that used their Dark magick power and their connection to the Spirit world to rule this planet of Dathomir and also to subjugate their Zabrak male counterparts, the Nightbrothers. Talzin was a particularly talented Witch and was recognized as a spiritual guide for this Nightsister group. Whereas previously, competing covens had been ruled by an Clan Mother and an Shaman, Talzin, holding both titles was able to unite all her sisters into a single coven.
Betrayed by Dark Lords
The Nightsister Talzin’s expertise at Dark Magicks was significant enough to attract the attention of the Dark Lord of the Dark Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, who came to Dathomir ostensibly to trade dark side Force teachings with Talzin and take her as his right hand as his own apprentice. Instead, Sidious went back on his promise and had abducted her son Maul to train as his Sith-Apprentice in her place. Furious at this betrayal, Talzin resolved to one day take revenge upon a Sith Lord Sidious and retrieve her lost son. In the meantime, she continued to lead her coven and protect her sisters from all off planet threats. Years later, Maul was presumed dead at the Battle of Naboo after he sustained mortal injuries, but his strength in the dark side allowed him to remain just barely alive. Although Talzin was aware of Maul's incredible survival, she was unable to rescue him and thus remained on Dathomir to plot her revenge against the Sith. When an Clone War between an Republic and the Separatists erupted, Talzin gained galactic notoriety by selling the services of Nightsisters as assassins and mercenaries. In the midst of the Wars, Talzin began targeting Dooku, latest Sith-Apprentice of Sidious.
Fall of the Nightsisters
Several years into the conflict, the long lost Nightsister turned Sith Asajj Ventress returned to Dathomir, wounded and in need, she was betrayed by Dooku and returned to Dathomir to seek Mother Talzin's aid in exacting revenge against her former master. Although their early attempts to assassinate Dooku failed, Talzin had a long-term plan for the dark Lord's demise. Her plot would be to provide Count Dooku with an new Apprentice in the form of a Nightbrother Savage Opress to replace Ventress, who was also one of Talzin's sons. Opress was Maul's biological brother and, after falling under the influence of her Magick, became completely loyal to the mother and was hidden in the ranks of the Sith. Ultimately, both Ventress and Opress proved unable to kill the Count and were forced to seek refuge with Talzin once more. While Talzin had tasked Opress with locating an lost son Maul somewhere in the Outer Rim Territories, she welcomed Ventress back to Dathomir as a full member of the Nightsisters. Not long after Ventress was officially made a full sister of the night their world was invaded by Dooku's droids and nearly all the Nightsisters were wiped out by General Grievous and this army.
Fall of the Nightsister Mother
The few known Nightsisters to survive the massacre were Ventress and Talzin herself with all of their other sisters dead and the Nightsister coven decimated. Weakened, the elder Nightsister fled into the spirit world to survive, but not before insisting to Ventress that she move on from this chapter of her life and follow her own path. Not long following this great massacre of the sisters, Savage returned to the world Dathomir having successfully retrieved her crazed and a crippled son Maul. Using what power she'd left, Mother Talzin reconstructed her child both in body and mind and restored him to his former self. Talzin's act of restoring Maul forced the mother to surrender her physical body to an spirit realm, but her son pledged to carry her torch of vengeance in the quest to draw out and kill Tyranus and Sidious. Maul and Opress did succeed in forming an Criminal organization known as Shadow Collective as an power base but were quickly found and defeated by an dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious himself, with her son Darth Maul being captured and her son Savage Opress being killed, effectively halting this Nightsister Clan Mother Talzin's plans for revenge against a Order of the Sith.
In the interim, she undertook a plan to absorb Force energy from Dagoyan Masters of Bardotta. Her manipulation of the Bardotta's Frangawl Cult, who revered her as the Great Mother, resulted in the successful abduction and absorption of nearly all the Masters, but the plan was derailed when an Jedi Mace Windu and Representative Jar Jar Binks interfered with Talzin's attempt to absorb Bardotta's Queen Julia on the moon Zardossa Stix. Talzin was again forced into the spirit realm but was presented with a final chance at escape and revenge when Maul was freed from Sidious's grasp and had started plotting with her child Maul to capture and then kill Dooku to draw Sidious out. Maul caught a Count Dooku and then brought him to Dathomir, where at the heart of Talzin's power she possessed his body and nearly killed him. Count Dooku's torture gave her enough strength to return to physical realm but this ritual was interrupted by Grievous and lord Sidious, who came to end Talzin once and for all. Despite returning to this material realm Talzin wasn't able to kill Dooku or defeat the Lords. She sent Maul to safety before she was slain by Grievous, this death marked the fall of Nightsisters.
Powers and Abilities
Magick Manipulation: Mother Talzin was a extremely powerful witch and a master of dark magicks, able to manipulate an spirit ichor that flowed from Dathomir's depths in a variety of ways. Unlike other members of her kind, she claimed to not have a natural connection with the Force; despite this, her powers were in fact derived from the Nightsister's unique connection to the Force which allowed her to craft a crystal ball to see the future or events across this galaxy. She often led the rest in Nightsisters clan through incantations. She also could put people to sleep with the tap of her finger. Talzin was capable of using her powers to torture Dooku using an lock of his hair even though he was on another world. Talzin was even able to appear in more than one place at once, as shown when the ghostly vision of her appeared from within Dooku's chest, although Talzin's physical body was still at Dathomir. She was able to contact Frangawl Cult members in the form of visions. Talzin was also capable of dematerializing her body, transforming into smoke then vanishing into the spirit world when cyborg Grievous had her cornered, as well as materializing and disappearing from wisps of green mist.
Using her magicks and a portion of her life energy, she was able to repair Darth Maul's damaged mind and build him an fully functional set of new legs formed from a salvaged droid parts, and after doing so could still manifest in the physical world by using her son's body as an vessel. In combat, Mother Talzin was capable of creating a green protection bubble capable of absorbing Blaster fire and Force Lightning, although it was useless as a barrier against physical attacks. She was able to launch lightning at the opponent whilst maintaining this shield at the same time. Unlike other Force lightning users, Talzin's lightning appeared a green color and was fired in concentrated beams that could hit multiple targets from afar. It was very powerful, able to destroy battle droids in one hit. She was able to make a lightsaber-like sword conjured from magick and survive in battle against Mace Windu, one of the most powerful Jedi of the order, displaying impressive dueling skills. The clan Mother Talzin's magicks were said to be strongest on the world of Dathomir; her power was such that an dark Sith Lord Darth Sidious himself believed that even an entire droid army would be unable to defeat her there.
While possessing the count Dooku, Talzin was able to use his Lightsaber to briefly hold her own against Sidious though Sidious remarked that Talzin's skills could not be compared to Lord Tyranus. However Talzin dark magicks proved to be powerful enough, at least while on Dathomir, to challenge Sidious's Dark side Power, and it took the intervention of both Dooku and Grievous to overcome her. Though she was never known to use telekinesis in combat Talzin was a powerful user of telekinesis, able to lift many types of objects with ease as well as levitate herself. She could incinerate or form a object with her magic. She could set things on fire simply by using her magicks. Although Talzin was extremely powerful she asked one of their elder Nightsisters to use resurrection spell, showing that she may not have mastered an ability to resurrect the dead. After sacrificing her life energies to her son Lord Maul she receded into the spirit world, and could be revived with a sacrifice near an Nightbrother village. Within the temple her spirit was able to emerge from an monolith to possess Dooku, drain his life energy, and even regain her physical form, but upon receiving an fatal injury she was slain.
