|Padme Amidala, Elected Queen and Naboo Senator - By: KONAMI|
|Position||Senator in the Galactic Senate|
Padmé Amidala Naberrie, commonly known as Padmé Amidala, was a politician who would be known as a leading of support for peace and diplomacy during the final years of the Galactic Republic. Amidala was chosen to be Queen of Naboo at a young age, during which time she would fight to liberate her home from the Trade Federation occupation. Upon the conclusion of her two terms as Queen, Amidala continued her career in public service as the representative of Naboo in the Galactic Senate. At the height of the Separatist Crisis, Amidala became the target of an assassination attempt due to her opposing the Military Creation Act. To ensure her safety, the Chancellor and the Jedi Council arranged for her return to Naboo under the protection of Anakin Skywalker, whom Amidala had met years earlier during her time as Queen. Shortly after the start of the Clone Wars, Padmé and Anakin secretly married on Naboo.
During the war, she became a leading member of the Loyalist Committee that sought to bring peace between the Republic and Separatist Alliance. Her efforts were often controversial within the Republic Senate, an institution that largely favored the defeat of the Separatists and the centralization of power within the Office of the Chancellor. By the end of the war, Amidala became pregnant and would continue her fight to restore liberty to the Republic as a member of the Delegation of 2,000. a group that urged Sheev Palpatine to return the emergency powers granted to him by the Senate. Instead of giving up his authority, the Secret Dark Lord turned Skywalker into Darth Vader, branded the Jedi as traitors to the Republic, and transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire. After learning the truth of her husband's fall to the Dark Side, she would give birth to the twins Luke and Leia before passing, with her final words revealing that she believed that there was still good within Anakin.
A Human female of House Naberrie, the woman best remembered as Amidala was born Padmé Naberrie on the bountiful planet of Naboo. She was the younger daughter of Ruwee and Jobal Naberrie and the sister of Sola Naberrie. Her father, Ruwee Naberrie, was a friend of Senator Onaconda Farr, who represented the solar system of Rodia in the Senate of the Galactic Republic. Amidala was very fond of the Rodian, whom she referred to as uncle. Although her parents were of modest origins, Naberrie was identified as a gifted and brilliant young girl at an early age. As a child, she devoted herself to public service, joining the Apprentice Legislators at the tender age of eight, and she eventually became a junior senatorial adviser. At age twelve, Naberrie participated in the Legislative Youth Program, in which she met a slightly older boy named Palo Jemabie. The two fell in love, but their relationship did not last, as they parted ways when Palo left politics and chose to become an artist. At the same age, she started a two-year mandate as supervisor of Theed, the capital city of Naboo.
Queen of Naboo
Two years later, Padmé Naberrie was elected Queen of Naboo, and she adopted Amidala as her name of office. When in danger, Amidala would disguise herself as one of her staff of five loyal handmaidens and would introduce herself as "Padmé" while her decoy Sabé assumed the persona of Queen Amidala. Although she was not the youngest sovereign ever elected, she would later question her own maturity at the time of her election. Padmé Amidala’s reign as the elected Queen of Naboo took place during a time of great change for the planet. With the taxation of trade routes in dispute, the Trade Federation set up a blockade of battleships around the star system, stopping all shipping to the planet. Senator Palpatine, Naboo’s galactic representative, debated the issue in the Congress of the Republic, but to little avail. When Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sent to negotiate a truce with the Trade Federation, the groups leader, Nute Gunray attempted to kill them instead on the order of Darth Sidious. The two escaped to Naboo, where they connected with Padmé , freeing Amidala and her entourage from the clutches of the Federation's battle droids, and the group fled the blockaded Naboo aboard the queen's royal starship. However, the royal starship was damaged in combat while trying to break through the blockade of Federation battleships.
The hyperdrive generator needed to be repaired, which prompted the crew to make an emergency landing on Tatooine. The Queen, who was curious about the desert world, disguised as one of her handmaidens using her birth name of Padmé Naberrie so she could accompany the Jedi on the planet's surface. With her companions, Amidala ventured into the spaceport of Mos Espa, where in Watto's junk shop the party met Anakin Skywalker, a young slave. Anakin won a thrilling yet deadly Podrace, which earned enough money to pay for their ship’s replacement parts, and the group left for Coruscant. There, Padmé, encouraged by Palpatine, moved for a vote of no-confidence in the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Valorum, and in the resulting election, Palpatine himself was named a nominee for the office. The Queen was happy for her friend but had other plans, opting to return to Naboo and free her people from the Trade Federation’s occupation. Back on Naboo, the young Queen made an unprecedented request of the native Gungans to form an alliance. With the support of their forces, she staged a three-pronged attack from the air, ground, and stealth assault. It proved successful, as the Naboo fighters destroyed the Droid Control Ship, the Gungans kept the droid army at bay, while Padmé located Nute Gunray and brought him to justice.
At the conclusion of her two terms as queen, Amidala stepped aside for her elected successor, Queen Jamillia. However, the Naboo had grown so fond of Amidala that there was widespread talk that the constitution should be amended to allow her another term. After her coronation, Queen Jamillia asked Amidala to serve as Naboo's representative in the Galactic Senate, a request that Amidala ultimately accepted. Ten years after the Invasion of Naboo, former Jedi Count Dooku became the public face of a Separatist Alliance that had withdrawn from the Republic in opposition to the corruption they believed had enveloped the Senate. In response to the threat posed by this Separatist Alliance, the Republic Senate debated the proposed Military Creation Act that would allow Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to formally commission a Grand Army of the Republic. During this time, Senator Amidala became a member of the Chancellor's Loyalist Committee and was regarded as the leader of the opposition to the Military Creation Act. On the eve of the vote in the Senate over the Military Creation Act, Senator Amidala arrived on Coruscant where her cruiser was hit in an assassination attempt. At the request of Chancellor Palpatine, the Jedi Council assigned Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to protect Amidala and investigate the incident, though Amidala objected to the added security.
After another attempt on her life followed, Amidala was convinced to leave Coruscant and to return to Naboo with Anakin Skywalker to protect her. Feelings between the two began to grow in their time together and they shared a kiss, but Anakin was forbidden to have a romantic relationship, lest he be removed from the Jedi Order. Meanwhile, Anakin began to suffer visions that his mother was dying, and left with Padmé to save her. The young Jedi tracked his mother to a Tusken Raider camp on Tatooine where she died in his arms, and in retaliation for her death he slaughtered all the Sand People he encountered. Padmé comforted him upon his return, understanding the pain he was going through. Shortly thereafter, the two left to help Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had uncovered a Separatist plot on Geonosis. Their attempted rescue did not work out as planned, with them being captured soon after arriving on Geonosis and sentenced to die in the massive arena. Their executions were designed to be a spectacle with three terrible beasts unleashed upon them. Padmé managed to deliver a powerful kick to the beast stalking her. As a full out battle erupted, Amidala fight side-by-side with the Jedi against the battle droids of the Separatists, and soon after Yoda arrived with the new clone army which turned the tide of the battle. They would survive the first battle of the Clone Wars, and Padmé would retreat to Naboo alongside Anakin where they were secretly married.
Truth Behind the Darkness
Padmé continued to work towards peace using both diplomacy and when necessary a blaster. Among her many adventures during the Clone Wars, the Senator attempted to broker a peace with the Separatists. Visiting Senator Mina Bonteri, a member of the Confederacy, the two agreed to cease-fire negotiations. Unfortunately for Padmé, darker forces were at play and prevented this peace from coming to fruition. In addition, the Senator had a reunion with old flame Rush Clovis a meeting that brought out the anger in Anakin, and showed that their relationship was not perfect. Three years after they were secretly wed, as the Outer Rim Sieges raged on, Amidala had fewer opportunities to see her husband. While she did become pregnant, she was unable to share this news with Skywalker until after the Battle of Coruscant. The news, while exciting for both parents, placed them in a bind as it threatened to reveal their marriage. Strangely, Anakin began suffering sporadic nightmares and premonitions that Padmé would die in childbirth. She assured her husband that everything was fine, but he was determined not to let his dreams become real as they had with his mother. His fears for Amidala increasing, Skywalker turned to his close friend, Chancellor Palpatine, who revealed to him and old Sith tale of Darth Plagueis who had come close to learning the power of immortality.
Meanwhile, Amidala became increasingly concerned with the events of the war and power held by Palpatine and the increasing rift this was causing between herself and Skywalker. Padmé joined a group of likewise Senators that were wary of Palpatine's policies and discussed ways of stopping him. When the Jedi learned Palpatine's identity as the Dark Lord Darth Sidious, they attempted to arrest him. Palpatine killed three of them before being defeated by Mace Windu. However, Skywalker interfered, slicing off Windu's hand, giving Sidious the opportunity to kill the Jedi. Skywalker, seeing Sidious as the only way to save his wife, pledged himself to the Dark Side. Sidious then initiated Order 66 declaring the Jedi to be traitors to the Republic. Across the galaxy, Jedi were murdered by their own soldiers, while on Coruscant Skywalker led the 501st to the Jedi Temple where they slaughtered everyone within. Knowing that her husband was in the Temple, but unaware of the true circumstances of why he was there, Amidala watched fearfully and horror-stricken from her apartment as the Jedi Temple burned. When Skywalker arrived at her apartment unharmed, he informed her that the Jedi had become traitors but that his loyalties stayed with the chancellor. He then left for the planet Mustafar to put an end to the leaders of the Separatist Alliance.
While Anakin was on Mustafar, Amidala attended a meeting of the Senate where Palpatine declared the birth of the Galactic Empire and himself as Emperor. After the birth of the Empire, Amidala was visited by Obi-Wan who revealed to her that Skywalker had turned to the Dark Side and that he needed her help in stopping him. Amidala refused though, and Kenobi correctly identified Skywalker as the father of the children she was carrying. He then left, but later followed Amidala into her starship as she left Coruscant for Mustafar to meet Skywalker. Upon her arrival, Skywalker, now fully turned into the Sith-Lord Darth Vader, saw Kenobi and blamed Amidala, using the Force to choke her for refusing to follow Skywalker down the path he had chosen. Padmé was knocked unconscious and later taken by Obi-Wan Kenobi, who defeated his former friend in a duel, to a medical facility on Polis Massa where she would give birth. Amidala, unable to face what had become of Skywalker, had lost the will to live and her body began to shut down despite the efforts of the medics to save her. However, she gave birth to twins, whom she named as Luke and Leia. Despite all this, Amidala believed that Anakin held some good inside of him, a belief she shared with Kenobi before she died.
