Barriss Offee was a female Mirialan who was trained as a Padawan in the early days of the Clone Wars, but later she would ascend to a Jedi Knight before she turned against the Jedi Order. Under her master Luminara Unduli who she was loyal to, Barriss preferred studying Jedi texts to fighting and was a bit older than most Jedi Padawans. During the war, Offee struck up a friendship with Ahsoka Tano, even though they were different in personality, the two bonded through shared war experience. As the war continued, Offee came to see the Jedi's role was one in which they lost their way and had become servants of the Dark Side. She chose to go dawn a dark path by bombing the Jedi Temple as a means to stir further distrust of the Jedi. To conceal her treachery from the authorities, she set Ahsoka as the one responsible for the attack, but her acts were discovered and after sharing her views of the Jedi Order she was taken away.

Biography

Jedi Padawan of the Order

Born on a passenger liner in deep space, Barriss Offee was a female Mirialan who prior to the border dispute on Ansion was brought to the Jedi Temple, where she would spend her time in study of the Force. A student to master Luminara Unduli, Offee spent most of her time by her side, whether during important meetings with Chancellor Sheev Palpatine or in combat such as the Battle of Geonosis. At a point, she practiced Lightsaber techniques with Tutso Mara, and the two grew close.

Both Conflicts on Geonosis

Offee, along with Unduli, sat in on a meeting between the Jedi Council and Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who discussed the growing influence of the Secessionist Movement, and the threat of an imminent war between them and the Galactic Republic. Later, Offee, along with her master, were part of the Jedi assault team sent to rescue Senator Padmé Amidala, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his Padawan learner Anakin Skywalker from the execution arena on Geonosis. The Mirialan survived the battle, as did her master, though the Clone Wars had only just begun. Early on during the Clone Wars, Offee accompanied her master back to Geonosis in order to assist the forces of Anakin Skywalker, alongside his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano to infiltrate a large Geonosian droid and weapons factory. Offee and her master found Tano and Skywalker arguing over their tactical strategy upon arrival, and Barriss Offee unintentionally annoyed Tano with her authoritative personality. Leaving their masters to launch a frontal attack, both Padawans sneaked through the Geonosian catacombs below in order to plant explosive grenades from within. They were, however, discovered by Poggle the Lesser and his super tank.

After Tano was rendered unconscious, Barriss was left with a choice: the bombs, or Tano's life. Ultimately, Offee and Tano decided to use the tank to destroy the reactor, knowing the explosion would kill them in the process. However, due to the tough exterior armor of the tank, both Padawans survived, much to the relief of their respective masters. Following their ordeal, Offee and Tano, having strengthened their bond, temporarily retired from the battlefield in order to recuperate. Shortly after Offee and Tano recovered from their wounds, they were tasked with making a supply run to Mace Windu on Dantooine from a station near Ord Cestus on board the medical frigate TB-73. Unknown to either Padawan, a swarm of Geonosian brain worms had been brought on board by infected Clone Trooper Scythe. Offee was infected herself after she and Tano were separated, and proceeded to stalk her friend across the ship, attacking and nearly killing her with her lightsaber. Eventually, Offee was freed from the parasite's brain control after Tano ruptured the coolant system, though she begged for Tano to kill her instead. Both Tano and Offee were taken to the medical wing of the station by Kit Fisto, once again to recover from the effects of the worms.

Bombing of the Jedi Temple

During the later years of the Clone Wars, Offee's views on the Jedi and their role in the galaxy became distorted, and she eventually came to believe that both the Jedi and the Republic had lost their way. Offee came into contact with Letta Turmond, a Coruscanti who opposed the Jedi's involvement in the Clone Wars. Offee shared Turmond's beliefs, and decided that it was time to make a statement against the Order. Showing Turmond how to use nano-droids as a bomb, Offee had Turmond feed the droids to her husband, Jackar Bowmani, an expert in munitions at the Jedi Temple. The nano-droids exploded when Bowmani went into the Temple hangar, killing several Jedi, clones, civilians, and Republic military personnel. Offee attended the funeral for the fallen Jedi, which included her old friend Mara. Afterwards, she Force choked Turmond in her prison cell before she could reveal Offee's involvement, allowing Tano to be accused of killing Turmond. She then pretended to help Tano investigate the murder via comlink, providing her false intel and leading her to an explosive warehouse with crates of nano-droids, the very droids found at the scene of crime. Offee then attacked Tano herself, disguised as former Sith Asajj Ventress.

After Tano was discovered by Republic clones, she was blamed for the bombing and put back into custody. After a short Council meeting, Offee's former friend was expelled from the Jedi Order. Anakin Skywalker, angry and suspicious of his Padawan's expulsion, interrogated Ventress, who revealed that someone had stolen her lightsabers. Visiting Offee in her Temple chambers, Skywalker spoke to her, and then attacked her with her own lightsaber. Offee, in self-defense, used the Force to grab Ventress' lightsabers, which she had hidden in a nearby vase, thereby revealing herself. Though Offee was able to defend herself for a prolonged period of time, Anakin Skywalker eventually overpowered and captured her. Skywalker burst in during Tano's trial with Offee, who was being led by several temple guards, one of whom would eventually become the future Grand Inquisitor. Skywalker demanded that she tell the full truth; Offee admitted she did it because she had come to believe the Jedi were the ones responsible for the war, and that they were the villains of the conflict. Offee was then taken away while Tano was cleared of all charges. Tano was offered to return to the Order, but she refused and left, feeling betrayed by both the Order and her former friend. Offee's betrayal had a deep impact on Tano and the Jedi Order itself.

Powers

The Force: Barriss Offee was a skilled healer which came in handy during the Clone Wars. She displayed the ability to use telekinesis to a high degree to transfer explosive charges onto the chameleon droid intruders and crush a few more by bringing the roof down on them. After turning against the Jedi Order, Offee became considerably more powerful, being able to Force Choke Letta Turmond to death without being in the same room, or even needing a live feed to focus. She also showed an impressive talent for stealth being able to evade the Force senses of both Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress, both of whom had considerable Force senses. Offee was able to stun Ventress, a well known Jedi killer who had previously slain even Jedi Masters, effortlessly by ambushing her and telekinetically hurling debris at her before slamming her over the head with a pipe.

Abilities

Lightsaber Skills: Like her mentor, she practiced the Soresu fighting style and her ability with her Lightsaber was great enough for her to survive the Battle of Geonosis, even though she wasn't on the gunships that freed the Jedi. She was skilled in tandem fighting where her movements would be in sync with her partners in battle. This could be seen clearly when fighting alongside her master she and Unduli were a formidable team in combat. After turning to the Dark Side, Offee's fighting grew more ferocious and seemed to mirror Ventress' aggressive technique as noted by Ahsoka Tano who thought she was dueling Ventress when Offee attacked her, although this was more because of the fact that Offee was using Ventress' Lightsabers rather than her fighting style. However, having dueled Ventress several times, Tano would probably have noticed if Offee was using a different style, so it is implied that Offee was trained in the use of Makashi as well as Soresu. Offee showed skill in Jar'Kai, being able to overwhelm Tano and hold her own against Skywalker, slicing her own Lightsaber which Skywalker was using against her in half, despite the fact that she was wielding unfamiliar Lightsabers.

Barriss' Lightsaber: During the Clone Wars, Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee wielded a blue Lightsaber. Offee used her Lightsaber throughout the rest of the war until her fall to the Dark Side of the Force, when she bombed the Jedi Temple, killing workers, clones, and framed her friend, Padawan Ahsoka Tano for the crime. When Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker came to her quarters, he took the Lightsaber as he engaged Offee in inquisitive conversation before activating it and lashing at her. She was forced to defend herself using the Lightsabers she'd stolen from Asajj Ventress, giving herself away. The two engaged in an intense duel, Skywalker using Offee's own Lightsaber along with his own against her until he subdued her. During the fight, Offee leaped from a ledge to attack Skywalker, the force of her attack causing him to drop Offee's Lightsaber. She was subsequently subdued.
